AUTHORS & BOOKS
I got lots of books in the mail today, and I'll be giving them away next week! I'm taking suggestions for ridiculous, but easy contests. So far all I've got is: "Name the actor or celebrity who would make the best zombie."
I'll be going to San Francisco tomorrow and hanging out at the Romance Writers of America conference. I'm not a member of this august group, but I'm looking forward to meeting some writer pals (like Esri Rose, Caridad Pineiro, etc.) and bloggers, like the fabulous Smart Bitches and Sara Reyes of Fresh Fiction. If you're going to be around, come find me in the hotel bar. I'll also be signing books on Saturday morning with the Simon & Schuster/Pocket Books crowd.
Stephanie Meyer's upcoming release of Eclipse is drawing hordes of enthusiastic fans. "'Twilight' fans nearly rioted at San Diego's Comic-Con convention last week when the stars of Stephenie Meyer's insanely popular Young Adult book series showed up." (Contra Costa Times)
Fans of Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series are visiting Forks, Washington. "When you read the book, this is the perfect image of how you picture Bella's house to be." (USA Today)
Godiva chocolate is now making a Twilight chocolate bar. "Hey, after all I was just recovering from my subway ride to work, where (like every day) I sat engrossed in Edward and Bella’s ongoing saga. Eating a breakfast bar in their honor seemed only appropriate!" (MTV)
Review of Seduced by the Storm by Sydney Croft. "Agent Wyatt Kennedy is a telekinetic with the ability to seduce without ever physically touching the intended target. It’s a handy skill..." (Darque Reviews)
Here's a list of opening lines of novels. "The moment the door opened I knew an ass-kicking was inevitable. Whether I’d be giving it or receiving it was still a bit of a mystery." (Urban Fantasyland)
Here's the opening line of Happy Hour at Casa Dracula: "If I had been a rational human being, I would have had a normal job and I never would have gotten involved with any of them."
Author Catherine Karp gives a head's up about the release of The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance. (Suburban Vampire) If I was the editor I would have named it The Wooly Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance, thereby drawing in both dinosaur fans and vampire fans.
Review of Angie Fox's The Accidental Demon Slayer. "Ms. Fox brings a light touch to the demon world, offering up a slate of characters that will make you laugh." (Fresh Fiction)
My pals at the Midnight Moon Cafe just revamped (I'm sorry!) their website. I like the fun new header. Alexandra Ivy, author of Darkness Everlasting, is their next guest for Midnight Brew.
If you want chances for lots of giveaways and prizes, enter The Bloggy Carnival. "You will have several ways to win the AMAZING prizes listed on our blog." (Danette's Chatting Lounge)
GRATUITOUS VIDEO OF THE DAY
So I have to give equal time to the BBC miniseries, "Middlemarch." It's a very good adaptation of a wonderful novel. Sadly, there are not a lot of vids for this. It not only stars an actor named Rufus (Sewell), but also a song by a Rufus (Wainwright, not Rufus the funk band)
And here's a tribute to Rufus Sewell, a terribly unappreciated actor. And I think this song by Jann Arden is sort of cool. Watch Sewell in the fantastic "Dark City" sometime, a haunting sci-fi/noir movie. Combustible Celluloid says, "It is the most imaginative, complex sci-fi story I've seen in years, worthy of 'The Twilight Zone.'"

I like Rufus too. He always get cast as a villian but I like him in his romantic roles. He has those dreamy intense eyes. I loved him in Dangerous Beauty!!
Big Rufus fan as well. I actually made that video. Glad you liked it. And thanks for sharing it with others!!

Hi, Shell, I'll have to watch that now!
Welcome, Laura. It's a lovely video and I like the way you edited the music to the clips. Please send me a note when you've got new videos! We'd love to see them here.
Rufus was also a baddie in "A Knight's Tale." I'm looking forward to his new series on CBS this fall.
What! He's in a series this fall? I hope he's not putting on an American accent like all the other Brits cast in American series. He can just stand around and that would be fine.
I so have to get out of here this afternoon. Please continue this scintillating conversation without me.
Tomorrow will be Rufus Friday.
Sharing some more Rufus love. Did you ever see him in Arabian Nights or The Holiday? He is pretty easy on the eyes and, yes, under appreciated. Thank heavens we appreciate him here!
Ru is indeed in a series this fall on CBS, entitled "Eleventh Hour". Sadly, he does play an American, so we won't get to hear his yummy accent, but you will be able to him every week..
