Supernaturally Casual Friday

"We can't save the world. Not today, anyway. But what we can do is chop off some vamps' heads."
Dean Winchester

AUTHORS & BOOKS

Vampire Wire is running limited stories until I meet my next deadline.

But the good news is that Renee at Hatchett Book Group is donating FIVE Advanced Reading Copies of Eve Silver's Demon's Hunger for a contest! Come back on Monday for contest information.

Review of Bite Me by Parker Blue. "Barely eighteen-year-old heroine Valentine Shapiro got a raw deal in the parent lottery. Her father was part incubus demon, and her mother's never forgiven her for that." (Darque Reviews)

MOVIES & DVDS

The soundtrack for "Twilight" will be previewed at listening parties. "Hot Topic — the nation's leading mall-bound purveyors of all things gothic — would be hosting exclusive listening parties of the "Twilight" soundtrack. " (MTV) Let's consider that again: the nation's leading mall-bound purveyors of all things gothic. Pass the Cinnabon.

TELEVISION & THE INTERNETS

I loved last night's campy, black and white "Monster Movie" episode of "Supernatural." Dracula, werewolves, mummies, and Dean in lederhosen. Here's a recap. Here are some clips. (Blogcritics)

Win a signed copy of James Reese's The Dracula Dossier. "If you are like me and now want to read this book...please enter this contest for a signed copy!" The contest is open to international entries. (Shooting Stars Magazine)

Review of James Reese's The Dracula Dossier. "But there is a terrible, seemingly unstoppable fiend washing London in blood, perhaps the most famous real-life killer ever: Jack the Ripper." (St. Petersburg Times)

Here's an excerpt from The Dracula Dossier
. "You do not know me, and you never will. Anonymity is all in this matter, and mine must be assured." (James Reese)

Review of Karen Marie Moning's Faefever. "Overall, I’m really enjoying this series and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to find it." (Literary Escapism)

Read an excerpt from Faefever by Karen Marie Moning. "Nobody looks good in their darkest hour. But it’s those hours that make us what we are. We stand strong, or we cower. We emerge victorious, tempered by our trials, or fractured by a permanent, damning fault line." (Karen Marie Moning)

MOVIES & DVDS
Here's a poster for the upcoming flick "Lesbian Vampire Killers." (Shock Till You Drop) Which begs the question, does this mean that someone is killing lesbian vampires, or are lesbian vampires killing others?

Since Stephanie Meyer is having a hissy fit about writing Midnight Sun, there's a petition to encourage her to write the next book in the Twilight series. Also, am I the only one who thinks that in this photo Kristin Stewart, aka Bella, is thinking, "Send out the laundry, take the cat to the vet, pay my cable bill..."

Here are some more new pics from "Twilight," and the movie is already a success even before it's 11/21 release date. "Summit Entertainment’s CEO Rob Friedman is already getting his ducks in a row for a Twilight sequel. Does it seem too soon? Consider this: assuming that every movie theatre in America doesn’t burn to the ground before November 21st, Twilight looks to make up its 37-million-dollar budget in its first weekend at the box office alone." (Fear)

TELEVISION & THE INTERNETS

Interview with Lizzy Caplan, who will play a new character on "True Blood." "Within the vampire community, there are sort of old school vampires, and then there are progressive vampires...The humans can be just as evil as the vampires.” (The Trades)

GRATUITOUS VIDEO OF THE DAY

Here's a way cool tribute to "The X-Men," by Ocp0002, who has a picture of Snake Plisken as his photo, so you gotta love him.

Okay, regular readers know that it's my belief that "Escape from New York" is the seminal urban-cannibal-zombie-apocalypse movie ("Mad Max" being the seminal rural-cannibal-zombie-apocalypse movie), so I appreciate this tribute by Ocp002.

Mutant Teens, Zombie Queens, X-Man Scenes

AUTHORS & BOOKS

Author Mayra Calvari interviewed me on vampirey things for BlogCritics. "There’s an amazing range of vampire fiction now: graphic books and manga; comics; horror novels; historical novels; paranormal romance; sci-fi interpretations; comedies; and urban fantasy. So no matter what your take on vampires, whether you like them horrifying and undead or urbane and charming, you can find it."

Urban Fantasy Land features info about Joe Quesada, Joshua Middleton, and Rob Teranishi's NYX comic book series. "Things just go out of hand, when she develops the mutant ability to fall out of time and enter a new time strip, where everyone is too slow to notice her."

Catherine Karp is having a contest for two copies of her spooky historical novel, Voices Airy. "In the comments section, tell me your very favorite Halloween costume that you've ever worn." (Suburban Vampire)

Read a chapter of Christine Feehan's Dark Possession. "Every cell in his body craved blood. The hunger raked at him with merciless claws until a red haze covered his sight and his pulse hammered with the need for immediate sustenance." (Christine Feehan)

Contest for three copies of Hex Appeal by Linda Wisdom. "Enter to win by Oct. 31." (Bookloons)

J.F. Lewis, author of Staked, blogs about vampires' teeth. "If there are hidden pockets for the fangs, surely it feels a little weird to have the fangs push the other teeth around, right?" (Paranormality)

MOVIES & DVDS

Interview with Christian Serratos, who plays Angela in "Twilight."
"Another fun day was the scene at the beach; it was kind of a trek to get there. We had to go through the wilderness and woods, and we were all in our rain boots because it was so muddy. But we got down to the beach, and it was so beautiful." (MTV)

Review of "Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer" starring Trevor Matthews. "Brooks has an anger problem. More precisely, ever since he watched a monster murder his family on a camping trip, he's had a problem controlling his temper." (IGN)

The Annotated Dracula; Vampire Movies; True Blood, Patrick Stewart

AUTHORS & BOOKS

Here's a very nice new review of my third novel, The Bride of Casa Dracula. "A funny book with a Bridget Jones meets Dracula edge, this book will appeal to paranormal fans wanting no-brooding with their vampire fiction. " (News & Sentinel)

Midnight Brew interviews J.K. Coi, author of Forever Immortal.
"When I started writing my first book it just came out as a paranormal. My voice lends itself to this genre the best, probably because I’m fascinated by the 'what if' scenarios." (Midnight Moon Cafe)

Review of Marjorie M. Liu's The Iron Hunt. "Maxine Kiss, demon prison warden, protects the world from the dark creatures that would decimate humanity and the world. " (Scooper Speaks)

Interview with Leslie S. Klinger, editor of The New Annotated Dracula - Bram Stoker. I wanted to analyze the narrative from the perspective of taking Stoker at his word." (Fantasy Book Critic)

Win a copy of Charlaine Harris's Dead Until Dark. "Simply write a couple of sentences about the HBO True Blood series on your website or blog and include a link back to this site, using the words “fantasy books” in the link." (Best Fantasy Stories) The book has a new cover, instead of the charming Chagall inspired artwork.

Patricia Altner's scary book contest runs through October 31. Lots of prizes! "I would like to know what is the scariest book you have ever read and why. " (Patricia's Vampire Notes)

GRATUITOUS VIDEO OF THE DAY

A great actor like Patrick Stewart deserves a tribute with a great song. No, I don't get tired of this song. Why do you ask?

And as Jean Luc Picard. Lovely editing of the clips!

Moonstone; Taylor Lautner; Patrick Stewart's ABC's

AUTHORS & BOOKS

Kimberly Swan reviews Moonstone by Marilee Brothers.
"Allie Emerson is introduced to her psychic powers when she fiddles with the TV antenna and takes an unexpected tumble against an electric fence on her way down." (Darque Reviews)

Review of Karen Chance's Midnight's Daughter. "Dorina Basarab (Dory) is the daughter of a human mother and vampire father making her a dhampir and an outcast in both worlds." (Paranormal Romance Reviews)

Interview with Leslie S. Klinger, editor of The New Annotated Dracula by Bram Stoker. "The biggest myth is that sunlight is anathema to vampires. Dracula is seen numerous times in the daylight, wholly unaffected, although his powers are supposed to wax and wane with the hour. This myth was invented by (filmmaker F.W.) Murnau in Nosferatu and has been slavishly followed in many subsequent films. " (The Columbus Dispatch)

Review of Anna Windsor's Bound by Light. "There is a doozy of a villain, very creepy, as this is the climax of the overall arc of the trilogy. " (The Good The Bad The Unread)

, including Magic's Design by Cat Adams and Gail Dayton's New Blood. (Romance Junkies)

MOVIES & DVDS

Interview with Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob Black in "Twilight." "Easygoing with a near constant smile, Taylor seems comfortable in his skin, although he has this disconcerting jiggly knee thing he calls 'my worst habit.' He twists his hip, styled-but-messy hair with his fingers a lot as he talks." (Grand Rapids Press)

"Twilight" fans boosting tourism in Forks, Washington. "'We had a wonderful summer thanks to the books by Stephanie Meyer,' said Marcia Bingham, Forks Chamber of Commerce executive director." (Peninsula Daily News)

Stephen Dorff will reprise his role in "Blade." "Stephen played evil bloodsucker Deacon Frost in the 1998 movie which starred Wesley Snipes in the title role. Stephen is thrilled to revive the Frost character with Blade director Stephen Norrington." (Sunday Mall)

GRATUITOUS VIDEO OF THE DAY

I just caught a bit of the original BBC version of "Eleventh Hour" with Patrick Stewart. (There's an American remake, but I haven't had the chance to watch it.) He's always fabulous. He was partnered with the delightful Ashley Jensen, who plays Christina on "Ugly Betty."

And this is just for fun.
