New Contest, Stakes & Stilettos, Demon King

AUTHORS & BOOKS

I have all these nice new books, courtesy of Hachette Books, so I may as well share them. The prizes in this week's contest are:

To enter, leave a comment on what two stories you'd like to see mashed up together. I'd like to see "Supernatural" mashed up with "Burn Notice," so there would be double the number of cool people having car chases, shooting up stuff, and fighting demons, all to rockin music.

But it could be a book mashed up with a movie, or two books, or whatever. You know, the Black Dagger Brotherhood meets "The Brady Bunch" and hijinks ensue. The contest runs through Saturday night and the winner will be chosen by random.

Big changes at Darque Reviews! Reviewer Kimberly Swan has gone from a blog to a website and a new layout. Looks as if one of my favorite sites will be expanding, but still be easy to navigate. Good luck with the new site, Kimberly! Yes, you should bookmark Kimberley's site.

Review of Stakes & Stilettos by Michelle Rowen.
"Stakes & Stilettos is narrated in first person by Sarah. Her voice is by turns comic and sarcastic but considering that she is a major trouble magnet she has plenty to bitch about. Her sharp wit and her reactions to some of the strange situations that she finds herself in are truly funny, so be warned if reading public that outbreaks of spontaneous laughter are likely." (Love Vampires)

Review of Amanda Ashley's Night's Master. "Kathy McKenna has had enough of the war between the vampires and werewolves, so she has moved to a small town in the Midwest called Oak Hollow. She bought a log house and opened a used and new bookstore that she runs all by herself." (Fresh Fiction)

Read chapter one of Amanda Ashby's Night's Master.
"Mankind had been heading for this showdown ever since the preternatural creatures decided that, although they were small in number when compared to humans, they possessed the strength and the Supernatural power to pretty much run the planet any way they saw fit."

Patricia Altner reviews Sharon Ashwood's Ravenous.
"Holly Carver is a witch hired to rid a sentient house of its malevolence. this is a particularly difficult job, but take it she must because she needs the money." (Patricia's Vampire Notes)

Review of Kresley Cole's Kiss of a Demon King. "I also gradually became more and more invested in the story. I've always had a soft sport for Rydstrom - I mean, who wouldn't feel sympathy for a king who has been trying to reclaim his throne for centuries?" (The Good, The Bad, The Unread)

Read an excerpt from Kresley Cole's Kiss of a Demon King. "'Whenever you have a sorcerer betwixt your thighs, your powers tend to disappear,' Sabine told her sister as she scanned the faces of the frenzied, caged humans. 'It's merely a fact of life.'"

MOVIES & DVDS

Author Catherine Karp has a trailer in English of "Blood, the Last Vampire." (Suburban Vampire)

GRATUITOUS VIDEO OF THE DAY

CSI: NY mashed with Anton Strout's Department of Extraordinary Affairs (DEA).

or CSI: Crime Scene Investigation with Jenna Black's Morgan Kingsley world.

***Can you tell which are my two fave shows on TV?***

Ladytink_534 said...

Well I'd have to go with my favorite two detectives, Veronica Mars and Moonlight.

Blodeuedd said...

Is this open worldwide? Those prizes, just my luck it wouldn't be.

But ok BDB meets Chuck.

yeah a weird one, lol. But they are so hit, and Chuck is so funny

Marnie Colette said...

I would like to see Chuck mashed with Torchwood. Casey and Captain Jack that would be fun!

donnas said...

I would like to see House with Reaper. Or House with Supernatural.

Carolyn Jean said...

Okay, that is a really funny quote you pulled out to link to the DK excerpt.

Okay, what mashup? How about The Shield with The Bachelor?

Cathy M said...

Would like to see Burn Notice and Bones.

Tanya said...

I'd like to see Nip-Tuck mashed with True Blood ...

This will be extra gory..

Quiltingreader, I'd put my money on Bart Simpson to outfox House. Ay caramba!

Ejg, I must confess that I've never watched "Charmed." I'll try to catch an episode sometime.

Kat, I can't watch CSI because no one ever turns on the overhead lights in the offices and that pulls me right out of the story.

Cathy, would Bones be allowed to drive the car and shoot up things? I hope so.

Ladytink, I'll look to see if there are any new "Moonlight" vids for you.

Bloedeudd, sure, this one is open worldwide, since the books are so light, shipping won't be too expensive.

Marnie, now I'm missing "Torchwood." I wonder when it will be back.

Donnas, but would the Devil and Gregory House argue with each other or become BFFs?

Carolyn Jean, hmm, interesting mashup and I'd like to see some booze and serious brawling thrown into "The Bachelor."

I'm going with Reaper and Sex in the City. Story: Carrie Bradshaw, sex columnist, finds out that her editor sold Carrie's soul to the devil to get people to read her column.

Marta said...

Jackie, I laughed out loud at that. Because Carrie's career was always puzzling to me.

Raven99 said...

I guess I would take True Blood and mix it with Grey's Anatomy. Those two shows combined would be a little like Larissa Ione's Demonica series, and I would love to be able to watch that on television.

Jackie Ballway said...

Mr. Big would, of course, be the devil in my mish mash. : ) Forgot to mention that! Chris Noth with horns...yum.

Vampy Nurse said...

ER with the Sookie Stackhouse novels.... i don't know why anyone has not written about the medical field and vampires... as an ER nurse, we stick people all day long, it would be so easy to take extra vials of blood... the possibilities are endless! :)

RachieG said...

I would love to see "Sex and the City" mashed with "Six Feet Under"

Seein' Carrie Bradshaw in the mortuary with that crazy family would be fabulous!!

Fun idea for a contest! :)

Judi said...

I would LOVE to see Supernatural mashed up with either Buffy TVS or Tru Blood. Priceless!

I'd also love to see Smallville or Clark Kent and The Justice League mashed up with The Unit!

Oohh and I'd die to see Brothers & Sisters mashed with Gray's Anatomy, lol. :)

Awesome contest idea Marta! (No, I'm not a TV addict... Really!) Ha ha

Valorie said...

I'd like to see The Vampire Chronicles mashed with the Southern Vampire Mysteries. I think Eirc and Lestat would get along very well.

Marta said...

RachelG, I can totally see that show.

Valorie, yep, I do think they'd get along.

Judi, I'd like to see Spike hanging with the Winchester brothers, too.

I'd like to see Supernatural mashed with Reaper!

Kimberly Swan said...

No entry for me Marta...Just a thank you for your kind words and all you do! :)

Michelle Kuo said...

I would love to see 24 mixed with Lie to Me, because then it would have all the action and suspense of 24, but then all Jack Bauer would know when a person is lying to him and can see who's a terrorist/traitor :D

Cecile said...

Gena Showalter's The Lord of the Underworld serie with Indiana Jones. I think of all people, he should be able to help the hot "demons" find that damn pandora's box!
Hey Martha ~ hope you are having a great day!! Thanks for the contest!

Raonaid Luckwell said...

I would kinda like to see Sherrilyn Kenyon's dark hunter books mashed with anything, it's very hard to pick just one for it to be mashed with. Maybe Burn Notice or the like

Chris said...

Hmm, I think 24 mashed with Shayla Black's Doomsday Brethren would be pretty interesting. Terrorist fighting wizards! Explosions, magical and otherwise! Bam! Zing! Zap!

Marta said...

Tetewa, both Supernatural and Reaper are on the CW and both are funny. I could definitely see that.

Cecile, you're thinking outside the box and you're welcome! Can it be the younger Indy, not the "Early Bird Special" Indy?

Kimberly, I should be thanking you for all the stories you provide to Vampire Wire!

Michelle, yeah, that would definitely be better than Jack's propensity to torture and the show's justification for a brutal tactic that generals say doesn't work. Yeah, I've got some issues!

Raonaid, I haven't read the Dark Hunter books, but a little "Burn Notice" makes anything better.

Mytyme said...

Hmm,
I think I would love seeing the Supernatural guys hooked up with Christine Feehans Carpathians.

HockeyVampiress said...

I would like to see the TV show Reaper mashed up with Kim Harrisons White Witch series with Rachel and Ivy. LOL

Has anyone mentioned Psych and Reaper? I could definitely see those characters teaming up to fight the supernatural baddies.

Tina Werner said...

How about Big Love, Charmed and the Lost Boys?

Virginia said...

I would like to see Burn Notice and Lie to Me put together!

RachaelfromNJ said...

I would like to see The Real World mixed with One Life to Live! :)

Vampy Nurse said...

Oh Tina, that's a good one. I love Bid Love... and The Lost Boys is like one of my all-time favorite movies ever!!!

It would be interesting to mix Strawberry shortcake cartoons, or rainbow bright (yes these are from back in my day) with maybe Dakota Cassidy's Accidental series scince they are a little lighter.
I so would have gotten a kick out of that as a kid!

I guess now it would be like Dora the explorer with fangs, or Spongebob beeing able to shift into other sea creatures! LOL!
