So some of you may know that I wanted to call my first novel Bite Me, but my editor didn't like it. I thought, and still think, that Bite Me is a great title, so I was happy to see that it's being used for an upcoming novel by Melissa Francis.
And she's got a great cover, too. Of course, I'm jealous! I'll have more about the book when as the release date (August 2009) approaches.
You can read a description of the book and a sample at Melissa's site: "What ever happened to the good old days when all a vampire girl had to worry about was the occasional zit and hiding her fetish for necks?"
Lara Adrian fans are gearing up for this week's release of Ashes of Midnight. You can read Amanda's review of the sixth Midnight Breed novel at Love Vampires: "For those of you not yet familiar with the Midnight Breed series (where have you been hiding?) these stories follow the lives of a group of vampire warriors, called The Order, who protect their species from Rogue vampires and their human Minions."
I don't have time to blog much today, so you should go visit Bitten By Books. Rachel Smith has just had the whole site redone, and it looks terrific -- a clean layout that's reader friendly and has tons of content. Rachel's a dynamo and in the last year she's built this Bitten By Books to become one of the essential sites for fans of paranormal and urban fantasy fiction, with tons of reviews, interviews, and contests. I like Rachel so much that I even forgive her obsession with Kindle.
"Supernatural" stuff. You know, if you haven't seen this series, do yourself a favor and rent it from Season One. I'd recommend it to people who like the scary-funny, character development, fast action and smartness of "The X-Files" and "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer."
BuddyTV asks some important questions about the series as we wait through the long months to next season. "All season Sam was drinking demon blood and Ruby claimed that he would be changed permanently."
Here are a few reviews of the season finale:
"This year, while I’m still very frightened for our boys (and their now fugitive angelic companion as well), and let a 'Damn You Kripke!' slip at the cliffhanger ending, I find myself pumping fists more than breaking out the Kleenexes. That’s a way to cap a spectacular season!" (Blog Critics)
"Last night's season finale of Supernatural was spectacular. The angels revealed just how dirty their game gets, and monster-hunting brothers Sam and Dean discovered their true roles in Armageddon. Which aren't what you expected." (i09)
GRATUITOUS VIDEO OF THE DAY
This is for fans of Alexander Skarsgard as Eric Northman in "True Blood." This video has those things must sought after in a tribute: flashing heart graphics, a song that's so sweet you'll go into diabetic shock, and a slide show of a hawt guy who plays a vampire. Enjoy!
I have loved this George Thorogood song ever since the first time I heard it. "Bad to the Bone" makes any video better, and here's one for Alex O'Loughlin/"Moonlight" fans.

Marta! Thanks so much for the BITE ME! plug and the kind words. I do love my title and was thrilled when my editor at Harper said YES! :)
You've got a great site. I'm definitely adding you to my blogroll and my rss feed!

Mel, thanks for dropping by! I hope you'll send us info about reviews and interviews, and I'd be happy to have you for a Q&A and contest.
My editor said Bite Me was "vulgar" and a euphemism for FU. The Simpson Defense (i.e., if a member of the Simpson Family says it, it must be acceptable to all decent Americans, duh!) was useless.
Well, since BITE ME! is a YA, it is appropriately vulgar LOL. The Simpson rule should definitely apply in this situation, but I've learned that some things just aren't worth battling over. LOL Sometimes and editor's mind is really made up and it's best just to roll with it.
I'd love to do a QU and contest. The book is released July 28 so let me know what you need from me and when you'd like to do it.

thx!

Hokay, let's be in touch and don't hesitate to remind me because I'm really bad at remembering these things, and, yes, I should write them down, but my desk is covered with papers.
Loved the Eric Tribute! Go team Eric!
Bite Me is on my TBR list, it looks like a fun read and I agree with you the cover and title do look great!
I finished your novel Marta, and I just wanted to say that I enjoyed it a great deal. I'm writing the review up now, so hopefully, I'll have it up by tomorrow. :)

Lindsay, happy to be of service!
PopinFresh, how nice! Please tell me when the review's up.
It's interesting that a title deemed inappropriate for grown women is considered OK for teens. I guess in the eyes of editors we turn into swooning prudes once we leave the YA target age group. Either that, or this is an interesting journey of the acceptance of "bite me" into everyday vocabulary. A related side note: I always find it interesting that YA covers look so much more grown up compared to those of women's fiction.
Count me in as another who wasn't allowed to use the title Bite Me. It was such a perfect title, but I always get 'marketing didn't like it'. Uh huh. Whateve. Now it's titled Her Vampire Husband. Sigh...
Must go look for Bite Me!
Catherine, I agree and hope that you'll blog about this at Suburban Vampire. So far as I can tell, publishers do no research on what titles appeal to readers.
Michele, don't even get me started. I have no idea who these marketing teams are and how they arrive at their opinions.
