Those who have not tragically lost all their long-term memory may know (hey, it happens), I had hoped for a "Blood Ties: Season One" DVD to give away during Vampire Wire's Ultimate Hawt Vampire Poll & Contest, especially since Henry Fitzroy (as played by Kyle Schmid in the series) was trouncing the competition.
And now, ta da, I have TWO COPIES OF THE "BLOOD TIES" DVD and TWO OF TANYA HUFF'S NOVELS, courtesy of fabulous Heather Suomi at Eagle Entertainment.
To enter the contest: leave a comment telling me your favorite secondary character in a show or book. For example, I love crazy vampire Elvis in Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire Mysteries. I loved Armand (Antonio Banderas) in "Interview with the Vampire." The contest runs through Saturday night, June 13.
The 4 DVD set includes: a behind-the-scenes documentary and trailer.
Here's a description of the series from the distributor*:
The story revolves around private investigator Vicki Nelson (played by Christina Cox), who witnesses a violent murder one night in the streets of Toronto. This is no ordinary murder, and as she searches for the truth, more and more evidence suggests demonic involvement. The investigation leads to an encounter with the suave and alluringly HAWT Henry Fitzroy (played by quintessentially HAWT Kyle Schmid), who just happens to be a totally HAWT 470-year-old vampire with a vested interest in the case. The two collaborate, and their relationship starts to bloom into something much more than the mission at hand, which interferes with Nelson’s current relationship with ex-partner Detective Mike Celluci (played by Dylan Neal). As the season progresses, Nelson and her cohorts are pulled into an unpredictable swirl of romance, action, and supernatural activity.
*The items in red were added to the text as required by membership in the Official Henry Fitzroy Assoc.

You can learn more about the series at the official "Blood Ties" website. The website has videos that I haven't seen on YouTube.
GRATUITOUS VIDEOS OF THE DAY
The GVDs go out to "Blood Ties," because I'm all about being thematic. Kudos to videomaker Edenslily for picking great songs to go with her videos. No, that doesn't mean I'll stop posting GVDs set to bad Eurodisco.

Amelie is a good one.I also like Ivy from Kim Harrison books.Marc and Jase from Rachel vincent Shifter series too.
elaing8(at)netscape(dot)net
Derek in Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels Series. He's awesome!
My favorite sidekick is Sherrilyn Kenyon's Simi. She has great fashion sense and would be fun to shop with. Plus, she totally kicks butt.
Jenks in the Rachel Morgan series and Vince on Dexter.
so many to chose from.... Simi has Ash as a sugar daddy, unlimited credit cards and had sex with Nick Gautier... have to make her number 1.... then theres Jenks from Kim H, Jace from RAch Vincent, Jason from LKH, Jim from Katie M's Aisling and MAgda from her Dark Ones....so many are great secondary characters....
My favorite secondary character would have to be Rhage from the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward.
I loved Ziggy in The Turning (Blood Ties first book) by Jennifer Armintrout. He is a wonderful character! I also like Jeremy in Bitten by Kelley Armstrong.
Ivy from The Hollows series by Kim Harrison.
I loved Dylan Neal as detective Mike in Blood Ties - they needed to get him out of that trench coat more often - so hawt and I've seen the pictures to prove it!!!! Oh boy!
Butch, sidekick to Black Dagger Brother Vishous, has to be the best secondary character in the world. That is until he got his own story. I could actually picture Dylan Neal playing Butch in the movie.
There are so many great secondary characters. Just a few:
- Elvis in the Sookie Stackhouse Books
- Jenks in Kim Harrison's series
- Jim in the Ashling Grey series by Katie MacAlister
- Amelie in Morganville
- Lewis in the Weather Warden series
- Bob in The Dresdon Files
Lots of great characters! I love secondary characters, because they can really add depth and flavor to a story. I Bernie Vines, the English teacher/tabloid writer is my favorite secondary character in my Casa Dracula series.
Coreeeeeen! No contest. Vicki was wrong: Some of us LOVE perkygoths. Especially when they're smart, resourceful, and if they were any cuter our heads might actually explode.
How many sidekicks do you know who would MacGyver a SuperSoaker into a flamethrower? Long before meeting the hero? For a party??
There are some great runners-up but seriously? No. Contest.
Great contest! Hmm. The Simi in the Dark-Hunter books. There are a bunch of secondary characters (such as Paris) in Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series that will eventually have their own books (I hope), but I enjoy them now, too.
Definitely Simi from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter books, she has the best lines. Her character makes me laugh.
I would say Verbena, the lady's maid, in Colleen Gleason's Gardella Chronicles. She provided comic relief but was also someone Victoria could depend on (when all the men were acting up!)
I like Murphy from the Harry Dresden series.
Oh gosh...um...
- Mister from Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files
- Huido from Julie E. Czerneda's Trade Pact cycle
- Joe from Mark Del Franco's Connor Grey series
One of my favorites is Jenks from the Kim Harrison books. Ever since we got to see Jenks in human size, I see his character and relationship to Rachel in a whole new way.
I would have to agree with others here - Simi from Sherryln's Dark Hunters. I also enjoyed Elvis in the Sookie series.
I like Jenks from The Hollows series by Kim Harrison
So many interesting responses!
Wiiqueen, I want to see more of Coreen, too. Gawd, you don't know how hard it is to give these DVDs away when I want one for myself. But Vampire Wire believes that spreading the hawtness is its raison d'etre.
You can also tell me who you could see cast as your favorite sidekick. I picture Bruce Campbell (whose already done a fab and funny Elvis) as Elvis when I read Charlaine Harris's novels.
Gotta love Jenks!
As Blood Lines is based on Tanya Huff's wonderful books, I am also going to say Hell from her Summoner series. Yeah, Hell. If you've read the books you know that in them Hell is a character not just a place. And a darned funny character too. Tanya! More Summoner books please!
Jasmine Guy
Role: Roxy Harvey on Dead Like Me!
She is my favorite person on that show.
80s Lady, I loved Jasmine Guy's turn from the prissy princess to a hard-edged bitter parking cop in "Dead Like Me." What a terrific series.
Gabrielle Anwar's reinvented herself in a similar way, as the gun-happy spy in "Burn Notice."
I absolutely adore Miss Patty and Babette from Gilmore Girls. They would make awesome vampires.
I'm also a big fan of Bobby on Supernatural. He kicks the boys in the butt when they need it (and they need it a lot), and he is more of a father figure than they got from their real dad.
For sure it has to be Jenk's from the Rachael Morgan series. LOVE him.
Edgar Frog from The Lost Boys
I like Simi from the Dark Hunter books by Sherrilyn Kenyon.
lovinfitch(at)aol(dot)com
hmm...secondary? I like Richard Cheney in Molly Harper's 'Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs' and I love Spook/Lesibournes from Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy (though in the third he takes on more of a central role). Oh! And in The Rowan (by Anne McCaffrey) I liked Afra a lot--I was ever so happy when he became a more central character in the subsequent 4 sequels.
In my opinion they need to express Henry's hawtness way more in promotions for Blood Ties. I don't think they emphasize that enough--yes yes its about Vicki and mysteries and the supernatural but they overlook the ability to draw people in with the pretty.
Jenks from the Kim Harrison series, Bobby on "Supernatural," Rose & Bernard on "Lost," and Rick, the Master Vampire in the "Kitty" novels by Carrie Vaughn. (I also really liked Dylan Neal's Mike Celluci on "Blood Ties.")

Simi from Sherrilyn Kenyon's dark hunters
spade from Jeannine Frost's Grave series
Jinx in Kim Harrison Rachel morgan's series.
I love Simi from the Dark Hunter books
Hi! Okay, I'll try to find some videos for some of your fave sidekick characters. Check in tomorrow!
I am a HUGE Fitzroy fan! I never was into blondes until he came along. Rarr!
I like Bob from the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. Great books!
There's so many!
-Amelie and Shane from Morgaville Vamps (Rachel Caine)
-Jenks from Harrison's Hallows series
-Derek from Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series
-Dorian from Richelle Mead's Dark Swan series
-Adrian from Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series
-Arya from The Inheritence Cycle (Paolini)

My favorite secondary characters are from Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series - her family, co-workers, the people she's trying to find - all of them are hilarious. But I have to say that Lula & Grandma Mazur are my most favorites. They always have me rolling with laughter. *grin*
Thanks! :0)
librarygrinch at gmail dot com
Some of my favorite secondary characters are:
Jenks from Kim Harrison's Hollow series.
Jeremy from Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series.
John Pritkin in Karen Chance's Cassandra Palmer series.
Iris from Yasmine Galenorn's Siters of the Moon series.
Hmmmm, I would have to say that my favorite secondary character would have to be Myrnin from Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampire series. I am also an Elvis fan from the Sookie Stackhouse series.
Thanks
My favorite secondary character is Acheron's Simi. She is a lot of fun to read.
I love Jace in Rachel Vincent's Shifters series. *drool* I keep hoping he'll have a bigger role in one of her upcoming books!
I'd also have to go with the majority pick of Simi from the Dark-Hunter series!
Hmm, I'm seeing some patterns here and may have to create a pie-chart with the results.
I loved Charlie Weasley. I wanted him to have a Crocodile Hunter-esque series of his own. hunting wild dragons & solving scoobie-doo crimes. it'd be awesome.
i love lafayette from the true blood series on HBO... he's hilarious and makes me laugh! thanks for the chance to win!!!
I like Pam as a secondary character in Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Series (Sookie Stackhouse). Pam is Eric's partner at Fangtasia and her sire as well.
Dottie :)
Well, first off, there is the ever delish, dark and dangerous man candy, Ian Ducharme from your Casa Dracula series. ::waves fan:: Is it hot in here? ::grabs towel::
Let's see...
I loved Savannah, the teenage spellslinger in Kelley Armstrong's book Dime Store Magic. Nothing quite like mixing a little teenage angst with the Craft to get things hopping. LOL
I think the rest of my favs have already been covered by others here.
Hi, all! C.Ellis, thanks! You'll be happy to know that Ian makes an appearance in the YA manuscript that I just finished. Sadly, he's not in my upcoming romantic comedy, featuring Nancy, Milagro's friend. You might remember that Nancy met Ian and told Milagro, "He looks like he eats glass and ravishes virgins for breakfast."
I have never watch Blood Ties!
Secondary characters would have to be Bob from the Dresdon Files! Please enter me.
lead[at]hotsheet[dot]com
One of my favorites is Lindsey from "Angel." You get to see him as a good and an evil character.
I loved Lindsey from "Angel" and his EVIL HAND! Also Daniel Dae Kim was fab as one of the evil minions of Wolfram & Hart.
Very "coincidentally" my pals over at Bitten By Books are having a poll on sidekicks. Anyway, you can go there and vote on your faves.
OHHH I'd love to be entered. I love me some vampires. LOL
Anyway, my favorite secondary characters from a book or show?
From books...I was and still am a HUGE fan of Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter series.
When it comes to TV, I love Lassie from the show Psych.
-Lauren

Show wise, I have to go with Lorne from Angel. His character was always so much fun, and I loved how he tried to keep Angel level headed.
Amber
sammyjones57 at hotmail dot com
My favorite secondary characters from a book or show?
Potsie from Happy Days.
chey127 at hotmail dot com
I liked Jenks and his wife in the Kim Harrison book I read. I also like the fairy brother and sister in the Charlaine Harris books
did it a again my email is darknovels1 at yahoo
BookBlog, Andy Hallett as Lorne was a wonderful comic/emotional balance to the angst. He'll be missed.
Chey, Potsie? That is one wild choice. I think I've seen that show once. However, I appreciate that it generated the term "jump the shark." I'll see if I can find a clip of that for tomorrow.
Shooting Star, I'm a Ralph Weasley fan myself. The Weasleier, the better.
Another Lorne lover here.
Diana in the Keeper series.
Ivy in Dresden Files
Lafayette in True Blood (guy is a hoot)
I thought Josef from Moonlight made an incredible vampire and lets not forget Spike from Buffy / Angel
Susan
kiwiwests at gmail dot com
Hmmm, well, I immediately thought of Renfield from Dracula. I'd also recommend Det. Skanke from Forever Knight. Maybe also Lily from Kindred the Embraced.
It's gotta be Jenks in Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan books. Je kicks some serious ass!
Jenks from Kim Harrison's The Hollows series is my favorite sidekick, he is such a great freind and protector to Rachel and he has a habit of stealing the show.
Pooh, that's a really, really toogg question. I think I'll go with Mickey on Doctor Who right now :)
Jenks seems to be really popular.
Book Spot, Mickey's great, especially after he toughens up and starts fighting the enemies. John Simms as The Master was fantastic, too, despite (or because) he's crazy evil.
I love Amelie and Myrnin from Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampire series. Also, Devlin from Sydney Croft's Acro series or possible Creed and Annika from that series.
I, also, really liked Josef from Moonlight and I liked when he was Logan on Veronica Mars.
What a great contest!!
I'm in love with all of the Immortal Warriors from Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series-- I'm especially excited about reading about Aeron, Gideon, and Torin but they're justs econdary characters as of the moment.
I like Connor and Phineas from Kerrelyn Spark's Love at Stake books-- Connor is a true outlandish warrior who's in need of some lovin' and Phineas made me laugh. *Sigh*
Simi is by far the best female secondary character from a series-- she was so adorable when she was drunk in Acheron but I also like Alice from Twilight (because we're so alike LOL).
In terms of shows... I like Bobby from Supernatural (he kicks ass!), and Chloe from Smallville.
I'm going back a few years and picking my favourite secondary character in a show to be Spike in the Angel and Buffy series!
Okay, lets start with recent stuff... from the Sookie novels I like Alcide, the were.....on the show True Blood, which you all know is TOTALLY different, i like Lafayette, he's just too funny, he's such a colorful character!
I LOOOOVE Carmen from Mario Acevedo's Felix Gomez series... she kicks ass!
Hi Marta!
Long time, no see! ;)
I have so many favourite secondary characters but I will go with Maggie from Yasmine Galenorn's Sisters of the Otherworld series. Seeing as I just finished Demon Mistress and thought she didn't have a big enough part this time around.
My favorite secondary character in a book is Cole from Jennifer Rardin's series. He's so child like and sweet.
My favorite secondary character is Max Antillus in the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher. He's so loyal and has such a sense of honor in the series.
gaby317nyc AT gmail DOT com
*Squeal!* I just love Blood Ties! I really, really, really want a copy of this. I heard that the second season got cancelled though :(
My fav secondary character in a show would be Spike from Buffy (it was Eric from the Sookie books but he's become nearly as much a focal point of the story as Sookie). He always played second fiddle but I always liked him more.
I really like Robin Goodfellow from Rob Thurman's Cal and Nico Leandros series, partly because I'm such a Shakespeare buff. And from the (now cancelled, sniff sniff) TV show Pushing Daisies, I really like Emerson Cod---he says the funniest things!
stefan.mercys vampire friend in the mercy thompson series by patricia briggs
My favorite side character is not really from a show. He's from a movie: The Butler from Clue. The guy went the whoooole movie with no one suspecting it was him. Just killing everybody willy nilly. Crazy.
I adore Jenks in the Hollows books by Kim Harrison. He keeps Rachel and Ivy on their toes!
Jenks is really one of the top faves!
Enigmaval, wasn't the Butler in "Clue" played by Tim Curry? I heart him. His pirate jacket is featured in today's post.
I loved Armand (Antonio Banderas) in Interview with a Vampire
And I loved Roman in Kerrilyn Sparks "All I Want For Christmas is A Vampire".
Carol L.
Lucky4750@aol.com
I'll have to choose Claudia. I'm sure you remember the little girl who shared with Lestat and Louis many unforgetable moments thanks to Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Chronicles.
My favorite secondary characters are Adrian from "Vampire Academy" and Aubrey from "Demon in My View" (Amelia Atwater-Rhodes).
I am totally an Eric lover from the Sookie books... oh yes, all team Eric.
Mary
zenrei57 (at) hotmail (dot) com
My fav secondary character would have to be Louis, from Interview w the Vampire (even though he's always whining lol)
Pam in the Sookie Stackhouse series (books) & Tara in TrueBlood. . .
Truly, truly Enda Grant in the Casa Draculas should have been mentioned long before now! (I'm NOT sucking up!)
Aphrodite in the House of Night (YA Series)
laf4com AT msn DOT com
Tony in the "Blood Books" is a fantastic minor character, especially in Blood Debt, when he finally gets fleshed out more as a character.
And kudos to Dracenea for mentioning Bob from the Dresden Files- what an awesome incorporeal/talking skull of a sidekick :)
I love Nathaniel in the Anita Blake series.
budletsmom(at)yahoo(dot)com
Dathan - the warlock from Linda Lael Miller's Tremayne vampire series. I always wanted a 5th book in that series with him as the hero.
lynda98662 at yahoo dot com
Lindsay,
I agree... i am so IN LOVE with ERIC!
I didn't think of him as a secondary character though.... at least in the books, we know he is very much a MAIN character.
But if you meant on the show, then I'd have to agree.... we haven't seen enough of him! love, love, love him..... and the new season starts tomorrow... EEEKKKK!!!!
Toot-Toot the Dew Fairy in Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files. That little fairy took on a skinwalker.

I really love all Sherrilyn Kenyon's heros even though technically they aren't all vampires. I love Ash the most - he's my favorite written character. My favorite vampire though is definitely Tanya Huff's Henry Fitzroy.
