BOOKS
Enter my contest for three copies of Stephanie Meyer's The Host.
Nightdweller at Bibliphiles 'R' Us is having a contest that runs through July 15 for a copy of Marjorie M. Liu's The Iron Hunt. "Along with the book, the winner will also receive a flask necklace inspired by Kim MacDougall’s book Luminari and some author swag."
Read an interview with the dynamo writing team of P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast, authors of The House of Night series. " I was in the very beginning of writing chapter 1, before Kristin had gone to live at college for her first semester, and I kept calling down the hall to ask her for word choices. After about three or four times I just thought this would be so much easier if I could just write it and have Kristin go back through it. " (Fresh Fiction)
SciFi Guy has new cover art for Linda Robertson's The Hallowed Circle. Uhm, am I the only one thinking, what the hell is growing out of that girl's butt? Not all design ideas are good ideas. (Don't even ask me how I feel about the covers of my first two books.)
MOVIES & TELEVISION
Read a recap of the CW's (and what the hell does CW stand for and why the the?) new series pilot, "The Vampire Diaries." "...what sets it apart is its offering of pure innocence combined with light doses of romance and comedy. Think more along the lines of 'Kyle XY' combined with 'Moonlight' and you will be closer to what this vampire story portrays. It has lots of 'heart,' poignancy, humor and light-weight suspense." (Rabid Doll)
Fangoria reviews the classic Hammer flick "The Brides of Dracula." "When Marianne (Yvonne Monlaur) frees the captive Baron Mienster (David Peel), she unwillingly unleashes all hell…or, just one really bad vampire. One way or the other, village people begin dropping like flies, and the charming Baron Mienster is responsible."Review of "Van Helsing," which is the worst use of Hugh Jackman in a leather costume that one can imagine. "The result is the kind of expensive flop that makes you feel very sad for everyone involved. " (The Realm of Madness)
Hugh, leather, the possibilities were endless, but they blew it, as I have illustrated below.
GRATUITOUS VIDEOS OF THE DAY
"The X-Files" tribute continues, because Vampire Wire cherishes commitment to a theme. And one of the GVD's reoccuring themes is BAD EURO DISCO! Yes, this video of David Duchovny, who played Fox Mulder, is almost too much goodness in one place. Please wait through the slow beginning.
Vampire Wire is also dedicated to fangirl collages and graphics. I hope you will enjoy the flying hearts as much as I do.

As much as I love Hugh, I can't even watch Van Helsing on tv. Yes, I actually paid money to see this in the movies. It is not even a "good" bad film. Just really, really bad.
Loving the x-files vids.
Shell, you are to be forgiven for not watching this movie. I recall calling a very young friend a "cultural barbarian" because she went to see it.
These retread posts trying to make the world think Van Helsing was a flop are so tiresome. I wouldn't feel bad for "everyone involved" if I were you. The movie is exactly what it was created to be, a fun popcorn movie and an homage to the old-time monster movies of the 30s & 40s. Nothing more, nothing less. It made tons of money. I don't think a movie that makes over $300mil not counting DVD sales would ever be considered a flop by those involved. I, and countless others I know, love this movie.
Darling, I just report the news, although I've given up trying to keep track of the hundreds of Robert Pattinson stories. I've tried to watch "Van Helsing." Granted, I am not the ideal audience for this film, but I like camp and schlock and actioners, too. I thought it was tedious, which it shouldn't have been considering Hugh Jackman in leather, flying vampires, etc. Whether or not it made money is of no concern to me.
Also, Anonymous, if you are Hugh Jackman trolling sites to defend your film, I must say, kudos to your general fabulousness!
you would think that Hugh Jackman+ Leather would automatically = autowin for life...but I think the main problem is he has TOO MUCH ON. Weather conditions and fighting conditions be damned the man has a body made to be shown not swathed in oddles of layers of heavy fabric!
And...I admit I sometimes will watch it, but I find its good 'background' fodder for when I need to study. I rarely get distracted enough by it to look up, so it keeps me on task!
and since when did stating an opinion garner so much venom? gosh Anon do you attack Twilight detractors like this? A movie can be financially successful and still suck.
I love both of the men but hated the movies, I could not bare to watch them with commercials.
