Answering Your Questions & Contest for DRACULA THE UN-DEAD

"Readers who enjoy dark fantasy with fast-paced action will plow through this book, not wanting to stop."
Library Journal

"Energetically paced and packed with outrageously entertaining action."
Publishers Weekly

I've got a great contest this week! Dutton has very kindly offered a copy of the soon-to-be-released Dracula The Un-dead by Dacre Stoker, Bram Stoker's great-grand-nephew, and Ian Holt.

Here's a description:

Dracula The Un-Dead begins in 1912, twenty-five years after Dracula “crumbled into dust.” Van Helsing’s protégé, Dr. Jack Seward, is now a disgraced morphine addict obsessed with stamping out evil across Europe. Meanwhile, an unknowing Quincey Harker, the grown son of Jonathan and Mina, leaves law school for the London stage, only to stumble upon the troubled production of “Dracula,” directed and produced by Bram Stoker himself.

The play plunges Quincey into the world of his parents’ terrible secrets, but before he can confront them he experiences evil in a way he had never imagined. One by one, the band of heroes that defeated Dracula a quarter-century ago is being hunted down.

TO ENTER THE CONTEST:
Just leave a comment saying what book, movie, or show you wish there was a sequel to. For example, maybe you want to know what happened with Mick and Beth after the first season of "Moonlight." Perhaps you're wondering what Lestat is doing these days. Or maybe you really, really want to know if there was a werewolf wedding so many years after the "Werewolf Bar Mitzvah."

The contest runs through Wednesday night, September 30, and a winner will be chosen at random.

The second book in my Casa Dracula series, Midnight Brunch, just got a very nice new review from Peace Love & Pat Book Reviews: "The biggest incentives of this book will be insane moments, witty dialogues, interesting new characters, bigger mysteries and complicated matters of the heart. Expect to laugh and symphatize with Milagro all the way. I can't wait to read the next book. "

Amazon's got Midnight Brunch at a special discount price of $5.60 right now!

I've been going through my emails and found many requests for mentions here at illustrious Vampire Wire. So here's all the news!

Author Michele Hauf announced that the VampChix blog has formed Bite Club, a book club for lovers of vampy fiction. The first book selected for discussion is The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance.

Michele says:

The rules are simple: First rule of Bite Club, tell everyone about Bite Club. Second rule of Bite Club, don't bleed on the freakin' carpet!

What a great idea! Best of luck to the VampChix with their new book club! Speaking of VampChix, they've interviewed Doug Knipe, our very favorite SciFi Guy today. He has a great list of funny paranormal book series, including my Casa Dracula books. "They all share a lust for life (figuratively and literally), humorous and eclectic characters, and a penchant for pun-ishing and quirky book titles."

Director Phil Messerer will be presenting his vampire horror flick, "Thicker Than Water" at several indie film fests in October, including: Terror Film Festival, Bram Stoker International Film Festival, and 28 Hours Later (28 hour horror marathon where the movie has been nominated for Best Picture). The movie's trailer is also in the lead in the Vampire Film Festival trailer contest.

Here's part of the synopsis:

Lara, a precocious teenage Goth, hates her wholesome sister, Helen. She envies her popularity, her looks and most of all, her mother's pride and affection. One day, after their 16th Birthday party, during which she is particularly humiliated by her sister’s friends, Lara performs an intricate ritual in front of her Anne Rice alter involving a Barbie doll and calf’s heart.

You can find out more about this movie at the website, BloodJunky.

Nicole Hathaway wrote to share the news of her ebook, Release, which just came out. Here's a description of Nicole's new book:

"Forever.” That’s the response Ben Gongliewski receives, when he asks Miranda Dandridge how long she’s been a vampire. He doesn’t expect the word “forever” in her reply, but then again, Ben never imagined meeting vampires, let alone demons and werewolves, during his time in the Polish Resistance during World War II. Far from being horrified, Ben discovers that Miranda and her friends have very useful … talents … especially when it comes to saving children from concentration camps.

You can learn more about Nicole and her historical vamp thriller on her blog.

Rebeca wrote to tell me the annual Haunted House NYC will have the theme Nightmare: Vampires. It's held on the Lower East Side from the end of September 25 through November 7. The website is fun, and the kid actor in it is adorable. You can watch a video of the making of the haunted house here.

GRATUITOUS VIDEO OF THE DAY

Here's a video for fans of Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) in "True Blood."

I know that when you think "disco," you think Vampire Wire. Here's a discolishish vid tribute to Mick St. John (Alex O'Laughlin) and Henry Fitzroy (Kyle Schmid) from TuesdayAngel.

Thanks for mentioning my book, Release! Oh, and for the Dracula, the Undead contest -- I've always wondered what happened to Michael and Star after The Lost Boys -- did they get married and raise vampire hunters, or did they go their separate ways?

Thanks for listing Bite Club, Marta!

Well, I just finished "Mr. Darcy, Vampyre" last night, so that sort of answered my question about what happened to Elizabeth and Darcy after "Pride and Prejudice".. but now I want to know what happens to them after the events of "Mr. Darcy, Vampyre"! Their world has changed drastically.. I wanna know just how much!

Please enter me, this book looks so amazing. I always loved "Dracula."
Thanks!

Hi Marta! You know, I can never seem to think of anything when I am put under pressure. I really would like to know what happened to Beth & Mick on MoonLight. There are sooo many shows that are just cut off without giving the viewer any ending ( Unfortunately, I am brain damaged at the moment and can't think of anything other that MoonLight since you mentioned it! ) ** LOL ** I'm sure that I will at about 3am.

thanks Marta. :)

Hi, everyone!

Nicole, best of luck with your book! Please tell us if you run any contests or do any interviews and I'll link to them.

Michele, Bite Club is a great idea! I'll add the link for it on my sidebar.

MorningGlow, you have to let them go!

PeaceLove, thanks for the kind review! I'll send The Bride when I have a chance to get to the post office.

Barb, I always wonder about Buffy Summers, Spike, Willow, Xander, the whole crew.

I've always wanted to know what happened after the series finale of Angel. It ended with the remaining cast members facing a huge battle. Stuff like that drives me crazy.

joder said...

I'm very intrigued by this new Dracula book and so excited to have the chance to win it.

The tv series finale of Angel left me drooling for more. Were they able to defeat all the big bads coming at them or what?

I've always wanted to know what happened after the series Firefly. Then the movie "Serenity" happened. But I'd still like to know what happened after that, although due to certain events in the movie it might be a bit hard to take (sniff, sniff). Thanks for the great giveaway.

Marta said...

Hi, Joder and Kimberly, yes, I wanted to know about "Angel" and "Firefly," too. Both series deserved longer runs, but Joss Whedon hasn't been given the time/freedom he needed on these shows. I'm hoping that Fox will let him really develop "Dollhouse."

Marta:

You most likely already know that Blood Ties fans would love to see more Blood Ties books and more of the Blood Ties shows. The way the show ended was criminal and left us with no resolution.

maggiemay said...

But I do have to add a P.S. to my comments. Tanya Huff has already said that she's done with the Blood Books and there won't be any more.

Dannie said...

If you asked me yesterday, I would have said Dracula. It is hands down my favorite book of all time, and when I found out there was an OFFICIAL sequel, I squealed for about half an hour. But now?

Frankenstein.

I wish there were MORE sequels to the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. I'm not sure what more could be said but those books were great!

I wish there was more in the Kindred the Embraced world of vampires. I think Sasha takes over so Julian can go be with his lady love and then Cash is her bodyguard and no one complain about their romance. And we all know everything is better when a woman runs things.

Just leave a comment saying what book, movie, or show you wish there was a sequel to.

I would love to see a sequel of FOREVER KNIGHT. God I just love this show. What happened between Nick and Natalie??

Karen W. said...

The sequel question is an easy one for me because the ending of "Angel" just screamed for one! Did they all die? How was Angel's fight with the dragon? I would love to know! (Although I like to think the best with the survival question.)

Oh man, do I ever wish there was a second season to Moonlight! I LOVED that show! And Blood Ties for sure!

I know this is old but I still want to know what happened to the characters in Twin Peaks.

Dawn M. said...

I've always wanted a sequel to Nightseer by Laurell K. Hamilton. It's a fantasy she wrote before the Anita Blake series but it didn't sell well, so no sequel. And it was a cliffhanger, too.

Thanks! :0)

I've been in a historical gothic lit mood lately, so I'm going to give this particular contest a try--the book looks tempting I'd be curious to see what happened to Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird, one of my favorite books of all time.

Rose there are rumors that Universal Pictures was looking to restart Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles and that they were in talks to use Robert Downey Jr. as Lestat. Here's the link:

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/17082

maggiemay said...

Not that I'm partial mind you but I think Kyle Schmid would make a great Lestat. He had plenty of practice being arrogant and aristocratic in Blood Ties. Even as great as Robert Downey Jr. is he's just way too old for this role.

Rose said...

THANK YOU VERY MUCH MAGGIEMAY
for the information about Lestat.

I agree 100% with you, But Tom Cruise, should play his roll again, after all He was the first Lestat in "Interview With The Vampire" Hell, bring all three of them back!! Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas.. It would be awesome
To see those three together again as Vampires!!!!
Thank you again MaggieMay

Excellent contest idea. I wonder if they'll make a sequel to Interview with the Vampire? Though, I'm sure I should just read the books to find out what happens next heh.

maria rose said...

as i just found out Ann Rice is now releasing a new book but she left a lot of loose ends with quite a few characters like the witches who linked up with Lestat and his buddy who he gave a new body before he turned him into a vampire have they all relocated since Katrina hit New Orleans or did they ride it out in the marshes

Zahir Blue said...

Wow. So many possible sequels...which one to pick? Well, how about Bram Stoker's Dracula, the Francis Ford Coppola film? At the very least, one can imagine the Count having an extra Bride around somewhere, maybe looking for redemption a la Dracula's Daughter...

buddyt said...

The family connection is very intruiging !

Wonder if he can write.

As to sequels, I was (and am) a fanatical Buddy fan and I would love it if they resurrected the series but they would have to get Sarah Michelle Geller back !

Please enter me if the giveaway in open internationally.

Thanks

Carol

I always wished Anne Rice had written a sequel to The Mummy or Ramses The Damned. The book was so good and it ended with a lot of unanswered questions.

While I've read all of Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles, I wish there was a sequel to Interview W the Vampire movie - especially as the second book (LESTAT) actually seems like it would be made for the big screen (Great book!!!). I hated that Tom Cruise refused to play any further roles as Lestat :(

pixie13 said...

Would love to find out what happened with a lot of Anne Rice's characters; she sort of leaves you hanging at the end of all of her books. Of course, sequels aren't always great; The sequel to Gone With The Wind sucked.
Thanks!

I wish they had given the series Wolf Lake some sort of ending they just left everyone hanging .

Assuming Canadians can enter, I'll throw my name in the hat.

A sequel I would love to see is for Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer ... provided Whedon was involved. I heard he isn't with the remake.
