"Supernatural" Friday

Hokay, I wasn't going to post, but "Supernatural" last night! Yowzah! Did that story throw me off. I was all prepared to hate the new Winchester brother, Adam, played by Jake Abel, because that's how I am. I thought, "Okay, I'll hate him for a season or two and then I'll get over it."

I'll even admit that I didn't like Sammy for the first year. Now I think he's fantastic, especially when he goes all demony. Evil Sammy. Anyway, I'm not going to put in any spoilers for those who haven't seen it, except to say that the actor who played Adam Winchester should totally be cast as Dr. Jeffrey House's son and I've even got a title for it: "The Brilliant Doctor's Secret Baby Son." (Really, this Jake Abel should get a DNA test to see if he's Hugh Laurie's kid.)

Anyway, way to go Eric Kripke, with his coyly titled "Jump the Shark" episode.

Here's a recap: "The boys get a phone call on their dad's old cell phone from someone claiming to be his son. Of course they go to investigate." (Zap2It)

An entertaining review:
"I love that SUPERNATURAL and its writers are so self-aware. Two new episodes ago, they took pots shots at themselves and all the good (and bad) episodes they have done and the craziness of some of the plotlines, ripped the fanboys and fan fiction writers a new one (but in a funny, fairly nice way)." (iF Magazine)

A review: "It was a tense night for Supernatural fans. Did Eric Kripke dare go there? Add another Winchester?" (TV Over Mind)

Here's an article and the promo for the next episode of "Supernatural." (Ace Showbiz)

The line at the end, I think, is a tip of the hat to a classic episode of "Dr. Who," wherein the Doc announces, "Today, everybody lives." But I could be wrong.

Here's a new tribute to Dean and Sam Winchester (Jensen Ackles and Jared Paladecki) from Reely.

"Mambo #5" and the Winchester brothers.

And back to serious stuff.

---------------

For those who miss Gerald Butler, here's a preview of a new movie he's in. It comes out in July and co-stars very funny Katherine Heigl. I don't know if there are vampires in it. Leave me alone.

A Very Special Chippendale's "New Moon" Episode

I'm manically trying to finish some writing projects, so I'll be blogging less for a while. You'll have to find other things to do at work. I suggest: knitting, xeroxing your butt (a classic, but still much beloved), writing a novel (yes, you can!) and secretly replacing the office coffee with a variety of other substances.

Anyway... Back to our sort of regular programming.

Read a description of Charles de Lint's new book, The Mystery of Grace. I think the cover's beautiful, although aren't tattoos over?, and I'm inclined to like a book where the main character buys tamales. SciFi Guy reviewed The Mystery of Grace earlier in the month and said, " It is a love story, a ghost story, a supernatural mystery and above all a beautiful, heart-wrenching tale of passion and faith."

Rachel Vincent, author of Pride, has a teaser, description, and an excerpt for her July release, Prey, up on her site. "My Pride is under fire from all sides, my father's authority is in question, and my lover is in exile."

Read a description and excerpt from Cynthia Eden's new book, Immortal Danger. "Once, Maya Black was a kick-ass cop patrolling the streets of L.A. She still keeps the city safe, but nowadays her bad guys of choice include demons, werewolves, and assorted nocturnal scum. Something Maya knows a thing or two about. She’s a vampire—and not thrilled about it."

Read a guest blog by Jocelynn Drake and enter a contest for copies of Nightwalker and Dayhunter. "So, one day I decided that I would write a short story in first person, but the storyteller would not focus on him/herself but actually tell the story of another character – a vampire hunter with a dark past and even darker abilities." (Darque Reviews)

Here's the new publicity photo of the werewolves in the "Twilight" sequel, "New Moon." It's positively Chippendalesastic! It's The Thunder From Down Underful! I am hoping and praying that the director of "New Moon," Chris Weitz, will include a dance scene set to an AC/DC song with these lads. It would be nice if they were dressed in kilts.

"The photo, obtained by USA Today, shows four of the Quileute werewolves: Chaske Spencer, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Bronson Pelletier. The fifth, of course, is Taylor Lautner, whose character begins to form a deeper bond with Bella (Kristen Stewart) after her vampire lover, Edward (Robert Pattinson), skips town." (MTV)

Here's an interview with fabulous Jim Beaver, who plays Bobby in "Supernatural."
My fondness for him goes back to "Deadwood," and Beaver is one of those actors who always brings depth and substance to his roles. "Bobby and Dean will get together to plot out a way to save Sam from himself. Now that he's got this demon blood addiction, that's very troubling to them." (TV Guide)

Watch some clips for the "Jump the Shark" episode on "Supernatural," and read speculations about the third Winchester brother. (TV Over Mind)

I have to have some coffee (the real stuff, not secretly substituted things) so here are your gratuitous videos.

Okay, I usually don't link to anything on YouTube without the coding that lets me post it here. But there are exceptions. You have to go to YouTube to see this Hugh Jackman tribute, but if you're a fan of Jackman's click away. Here's another one that is well worth a few minutes of your time. And I would like to say, oh, my.

And if you prefer a different Hugh, here's a tribute to Hugh Laurie.

Lisa McMann's Fade, Faith Hunter & Too Hot to Blog

AUTHORS & BOOKS

Meljean Brook has the cover and an excerpt from the Must Love Hellhounds anthology, to be released in September. "That morning, two hours after she received an anonymous e-mail that included an address and a short message, Maggie Wren boarded a flight from San Francisco to New York. Accompanied by the hellhound that Maggie’s employer had demanded she bring with her, she arrived at JFK mid-afternoon."

Review of Lisa McMann's Fade, the second book in her Wake series. "The menace in this book is frightening in a very real world sense. McMann is able to slowly build the threat--we learn as Janie learns about the crimes being committed or the crime about to be committed." (Poisoned Rationality)

Read chapter one of Lisa McMann's Fade.
"She grips her head, cursing her mother under her breath as the whirling kaleidoscope of colors builds and throws her off balance. She bumps against the wall and holds on, and then slowly lowers herself blindly to the floor as her fingers go numb. The last thing she needs is to crack her head open. Again." (Simon & Schuster)

Here's the cover of Faith Hunter's shifter novel, Skinwalker, to be released in July. Read an interview with Faith Hunter, author of the shifter novel, Skinwalker. "Each book is written as a thriller, a fast paced tale of battle against Darkness and the ongoing struggle of Thorn, to find her place in the world of humans." (*headdesk*)

Read excerpts from Faith Hunter's novels: Seraphs, Bloodring, and Host. "I concentrated on the bloodstone handle of my walking-stick and pulled the horse to me, reins firm as I whispered soothing, seeming nonsense words no one would interpret as a chant."

Dottie reviews the anthology Bite, with stories by Laurell K. Hamilton and MaryJanice Davidson.
"
As many of you know MJ Davidson is one of my favorite authors and the Queen Betsy Series is at the top of re-read stack. Whenever I need an instant pick me up, read MJ. She takes the supernatural and turns it on it's ear." (My Blog 2.0) Dottie is a proud member of the Naked David Boreanaz Club. Grab the badge from the link and display it everywhere!

It's too hot to blog (Bay Area breaking heat records), so I'm just going to post new videos.

First of all congrats to Vampire Wire's fave "Supernatural" video tribute creator, Miss Supernatural! A video posted her was also used to introduce Jensen Ackles, who plays Dean Winchester, at a "Supernatural" convention in Sydney. Way to go, Miss S. If you'd like to get updates to her videos, you can subscribe at YouTube.

Here's one of Miss Supernatural's classics from a year ago.

Revamped, New "True Blood" Poster and Other Stuff

AUTHORS & BOOKS

S.J. Day has been getting tons of press lately for her new Marked series, and Kimberly Swan reviews the just released Eve of Destruction. " Ms. Day gives readers an intelligent heroine who has the strength to stand up to whatever life throws her way." (Darque Reviews)

Here's another review of S.J. Day's Eve of Destruction. "She follows him into the stairwell and their short sexual encounter leaves her with an unwanted gift-- the mark of Cain." (Laura Lehman, Bella Online)

Review of Revamped by J.F. Lewis. "ReVamped is the second book in the Void City series by fantasy author J.F. Lewis. It continues the adventures of Eric, a hugely powerful vampire with memory problems, and Tabitha his newly made vampire ex-girlfriend." (Love Vampires)

Author Tempest Knight gives an overview of Alexis Morgan's Dark Protector series. "His destiny: To die over and over again to protect mankind from the Others, only to be revived each time by his mortal Handler." (Midnight Moon Cafe)

Read an excerpt from Angie Fox's upcoming release, The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers. "The Hairy Hog biker bar stood on an acre and a half of scrub brush, right off Highway 40. The beer was cold, the pool table fixed and the juke box jinxed to play two-for-one Lynyrd Skynyrd."

Read a description and an excerpt from Jade Lee's new release, Dragonborn. "When dragon power flows through your veins, when dragon thoughts burn in your mind, you can accomplish anything. "

Enter a contest for Jade Lee's Dragonborn. "Three winners to receive copy of Dragonborn, first in the fantasy dragon series and a $10 gift card..." (Fresh Fiction)

I was going to post an excerpt from a hot new series, but the author's website has so many frickin graphics and is so slow to load that I thought, the heck with it. I used to be patient with sites, but now I'm not going to wait for them to load with fancy do-hickies and little count-downs of the percentage loaded. Authors, please do not let your designers go overboard. It's about your books, not their Flash graphics. Am I the only one who feels this way?

MOVIES & DVDS

So while I was looking up info on the novel Revamped, I discovered that there was a movie with no connection, but the same title. "It is now that we are brought into the resistance of sorts where the vamps are now outlawed and hunted down. I won't go any further in ruining the movie as the corny cheesy dialogue can help appease the pain that you will feel from the horrible characters, acting, storyline, directing, and what is possibly the worst special effects I have ever witnessed." (Horror Movie Reviews) Well, this sounds like a must-see!

TELEVISION & DVDS

Here's the new poster for "True Blood," season two. It seems that HBO is again throwing more energy into marketing this series than, oh, say, making the vampire night club scenes look less cheeseluous.

Here's an article on next season's "True Blood."
"[Sookie Stackhouse] spends the first half of the season focusing on vampires and vampire politics in Dallas, as a sort of favor to Eric, and she spends the last half of the season cleaning up the mess that some new supernatural creatures have created in her town—and she is pissed. She is not going to take it anymore." (Examiner) Uhm, that sounds like a strong departure from Charlaine Harris's much loved novels.

Read an interview with Traci Dinwiddie, who plays the psychic Pamela in "Supernatural." "I did notice the dark essence of the script and was surprised by it...Yet, that is the nature of Supernatural. It’s takes quick turns and good folks fall prey to the dark side all the time."

GRATUITOUS VIDEO OF THE DAY

I know there are lots of fans for the Alan Ball series and especially of Alexander Skarsgard, who plays Eric. Not only does Skarsgard look like my best friend from high school (she was tall, blond and had the exact same 'do), but he also has kind of a Macauley Caulkin thing going on. This the best of the videos I saw on Eric, courtesy of SubterraneanTV.
