Haunted Honeymoon got another great review at Completely Booked, a book blog by one of our Northern neighbors, Zita Hildebrant, who calls the book:
...a hilarious comedy of errors and a look into a fascinating world where not-vampires exist and are being hunted by corporate baddies. Marta Acosta has written a splendid tale in the best tradition of romantic comedies.Well, that just makes me want to celebrate with an icy Molson and a Ryan Reynolds DVD. Zita is a book fanatic and a frequent visitor to Vampire Wire. I didn't realize that she had a new review blog (started in July) with a focus on paranormal romance/urban fantasy stories. Congrats on Completely Booked, Zita, and please tell us when you've got a new review up!
Michelle Greathouse
Congrats! I hope you enjoy the book and I'm sending you an email about your prize. Michelle is also a blogger and book reviewer, as well as a zombie and action fan. Her blog, Michelle's Book Blog, has a gorgeous chocolately brown design and Michelle enjoys reviewing paranormal/urban fantasy, although she also covers the occasional scifi and thriller/mystery. Michelle has a contest now for Julie Kenner's latest, Aphrodite's Secret.
Don't forget to check the CONTEST tab on the bar at top for more contests.
Anyway, a publicity guy sent me an email about advertising and I said, well, what book is it? And he said Nightshade. And I said, Oh, I'm interested in that and I've already featured the cover and info on my blog. He was nice and it was easy, so that's my explanation. Naturally I'm going to try to get the author here and a copy of Nightshade for a contest so you all have a chance to read it.
In other news: my arch nemesis SciFi Guy has a new post about young adult releases for September. Now, just thinking about him makes my Molson go flat, but you may want to look at all the book covers. I really like the beautiful one for Rachel Caine's The Morganville Vampires.
YA covers are usually better than adult book covers, although I'm kinda in stitches at one of the really bad ones, which was done by someone who should slowly step away from the Photoshop. Guess which one!
On Friday, I'll have the redoubtable Rebecca Baumann here to talk about her very successful Dirty Sexy Books review and book site. Rebecca is offering a very special prize in a contest and she'll share all the secrets of how she became a internet book diva.
GRATUITOUS VIDEOS OF THE DAY
Okay, the theme is...our Northern neighbors, and here's a tribute to Ryan Reynolds as Hannibal King in Blade: Trilogy. Video by Acra 75 and "Locking Up the Sun" by Poets of the Fall.
Video by HaydenFreak, clips from Ryan Reynolds' movies, and "Hero" by Nickelback.
Video by Drachlo and "Kung Fu Fighting"
And to Canada en general, a video by Racegirlbriar, song by somebody with the poignant lyrics, "Hosers, take off!"

I agree that YA covers often outdo the adult variety. Somehow I think teen bullshit meters works better than their parents and publishers know they can't slip one over on them.
Oh yeah I can't let the Molson comment fly either. Where the heck you finding Molsons in California. Don't you mean your wine spritzer?
Hey, archnemesis, I thought I felt your beady eyes watching me! San Francisco is a town historically known for partying. It had the first brewery on the West Coast. Oh, and wine spritzers are excellent beverages when one is housecleaning.
As for the YA covers, most are great, but the one with fangs coming out of the lips? Agh.
I looked at the covers posted at Scifi Guy and some of them were great while others were plain scary. However, my daughter will be quite pleased when I tell her there is a Monster High book coming out.
Hey, Scooper, I was running YA covers a while ago and I was really impressed by most of them. There are the exceptions to the rule. While much of publishing is having a tough time, YA fiction is doing really well.
Marta,
I am very excited about Love Bites - and I appreciate the blog love. :)
I agree that the YA genre has some pretty awesome book covers. I love the covers for the new Morganville Vampires omnibus editions.

Marta, I have to tell you as a fellow Canadian Molson is the single most nastiest beer out there. Please do us all a favor and get yourself some Labatt Blue ;)
Nightshade still looks amazing. I like YA covers as well, they always seem to have a theme to them as well.
Which do you think is the Really Bad Cover? I'd say REVAMPED
I can't wait to see Ryan as the Green Lantern. I saw some clips of him at ComicCon and he was very funny and charming.
Squeeeee!!! I <3 Ryan Reynolds.
SO MUCH.
I'm weeping now that my poor old blog posts have been lost to the darkest corners of the internets. Stupid Wordpress. If I hadn't lost my old blog posts, I would've showed you the most fabulous birthday gift ever--my friend made a flash video of Ryan singing a very silly song for moi. I'll just have to repost it when my birthday rolls around again in December. Le sigh.
As for drool-worthy book covers, have you seen HALO or FALLEN? Those provoke my envy every time I see them, hehe.
Oh, and while I'm at it, YES, I would love to take you up on a guest post one of these days! My brain is still fried from rushing to get the finishing touches on book #3, but that's done. Give me a few days to recoup, and I'll be good as new and ready to roll!
<3,
