I'm Baaaack! Awesome Stuff: MISFITS on HuluPlus & Amazon ACX

Hope everyone had a terrific time over the holidays! I was cheered by news of a great freelance writing gig that will keep me busy for the next few months while I wait for my next book deal and the release of Dark Companion on July 3. Speaking of which, I announced the winners of my ARC contest, Kelly H and Lelelia, on my author website. Please subscribe to my website's blog to automatically be entered in future contests.

Great news! I was able to get my audio book rights reverted back to me (my publisher had owned them) and I'm using Amazon's fantastic new audiobook program, ACX, to bring my Casa Dracula series out as audiobooks. (Neil Gaiman is narrating all his books through ACX and Maria Lima, author of the Blood Lines books, just told me she's doing the same!)

Marvelously funny actress and comic Deanna Moffitt will be narrating my books. Deanna has trained and toured with famed Second City and she's absolutely wonderful as snarky, hilarious, cheerful Milagro. We expect the audiobook to be available by Spring.

The best present I got for Christmas was a Roku streaming player, so I can watch shows from HuluPlus and Netflix on my television. This kept me entertained during all the football bowl games. I'm able to geek out and watch scifi flicks, and I discovered Misfits, a sci-fi series from the UK, on HuluPlus and got absolutely hooked.
Misfits follows five outsiders on community service who get struck by a flash storm and lumbered with special powers.

Hard as nails Kelly (Lauren Socha) can suddenly hear people’s thoughts, shamed sporting hero Curtis (Nathan Stewart Jarrett) discovers he has the ability to turn back time when he regrets something, and party girl Alisha (Antonia Thomas) can send people into a sexual frenzy when they touch her skin. Even painfully shy Simon (Iwan Rheon) can make himself invisible when he feels he’s being ignored, which makes it all the more hard to swallow for smart aleck Nathan (Robert Sheehan), who seems to have been unaffected, much to his dismay.

Unlike their more conventional counterparts, our misfits don’t swap their ankle tags and mobile phones for capes and tights. Instead, they discover what a pain in the arse life can be when you’re stuck with a super power you didn’t want.
These superheroes aren't nice, well-behaved people. They're the sorts of cussing, drinking, partying, sexing, morally-compromised characters who end up forced to do community service. So when you find yourself caring for them, when they show true bravery and loyalty, it means so much more. I love love love this show, but I suspect a lot of people will find the sex and nudity, drugs, and language crude and offensive. And, oh, yeah, lots of people die pretty gruesome deaths.  Season Three just started and runs on Monday nights on HuluPlus in the US.

Here's the first season trailer. Some cussing and crudeness.

GRATUITOUS VIDEOS OF THE DAY

Here's a video for my favorite new series, Misfits.

Some of you Eric Northman fans were probably missing new videos, and this one was just uploaded.

I've finally watched a few episodes of The Vampire Diaries. I'm not quite hooked, but I am getting more interested.

Here's a moody multifandom vid. Tomorrow I'll try to have cheerier songs.

Welcome back :) hope you had a lovely festive season and end to 2011!

And ... welcome to the Misfits bandwagon :)

I absolutely adored seasons 1 & 2, but season 3 without Nathan is a MAJOR disappointment for me so far.

I'm still watching it, but the more I watch the more I think that Robert Sheehan was the funny glue that held it all together. Though I do like Simon too. He's just so creepy-adorable!

Hi, D! I did have a very nice Christmas -- and one of the most fun things I did was talking to a couple who illustrate comic books. I was in geeky bliss. Gawd, I love Misfits. Nathan was a great character -- one of the most joyfully vulgar I've ever seen. Isn't he appearing later on in series 3? And Simon -- whoda guessed he's be so awesome?

Misfits is full of win and awesome. Granted I miss Nathan from the first two seasons but I'm still looking forward to season 4.

Nope, after Vegas, Baby! there's pretty much zero new Nathan footage. I won't spoiler beyond that though.

Just don't ask me how I've been watching them as they're released in the UK or I'll have to post this anonymously via proxy.

Hi, Buzzard, I shoulda known you're a fellow Misfiter. Don't tell me any more about season four. I just did a viewing marathon and now I have to wait for new eps to come out on Monday.

Any other shows I should be watching? I'm about to finish up Battlestar Galactica, and I'll miss that series. I'm wondered about Farscape and Heroes.

Farscape's pretty good, Heroes too but I wouldn't say it's as good.

Lost Girl (Canadian show that's about to be showing in the US) is a pretty good way to kill an hour.

Primeval wasn't bad but I'm not sure if they're going to be making any episodes beyond the 4 seasons they already have.

And of course, if you aren't already a Doctor Who fan, shame on you.

I have been getting into 'heavy' shows lately.

'Homeland' was incredible (I have been a big Damian Lewis fan for a long time, since 'Life' but especially 'Band of Brothers')

'Once Upon a Time' is INCREDIBLE!

'The Killing' (adapted from the Danish series) is also a nail-biter. But the finale will frustrate you.

But if there is one TV show I must encourage you to watch, it's 'The Promise'. It was a 2011 four-part UK series about the Israel/Palestine conflict. Written by Peter Kosminsky - present day, a young British woman is travelling with her best friend, who is going to do her stint in the Israel Defence Forces. While holidaying with her friend's family, the girl retraces her grandfather's steps in the country - from when he was stationed there as a British soldier in the 1940s.

It is incredible. Breathtaking. Heavy, but you'll feel better for having watched it. Trust me.

Hi, Buzz & Dani, thanks for the suggestioins! I'll make a note of Lost Girl and Homeland. I've got Once Upon a Time recorded, and I'll check out The Promise. Maybe I'll do a "Shows you should be watching" post soon.
