Prepare to be Amazed -- at My Awesome Contest

I really am going to start saying "Prepare to be amazed!" in my everyday conversation. I tried using "True story!" but it never really worked for me. Yesterday my brother made fun of me for using "churlish" in a conversation. "You're the only person I know who says churlish and quixotic." Anyways....it has occurred to me that I haven't given away any of my books for a while. So let's have a contest!

The Grand Prize is signed copies of all of my novels:

Happy Hour at Casa Dracula
Midnight Brunch
The Bride of Casa Dracula
Haunted Honeymoon
Nancy's Theory of Style (under my pen name Grace Coopersmith
ARC of Dark Companion
In addition, I'll include bookmarks, postcards and other promo items.

Second and third prizes are: Signed copy of Midnight Brunch, Casa Dracula book 2, and postcards and bookmarks.

CONTEST RULES: Leave a comment about why you need some snarky paranormal romantic comedies OR who is your favorite snarky character in books, tv or movies. (Right now, mine is Kenzi on the fae series, Lost Girl, played by the hilarious Ksenia Solo.)

You get extra points for following or subscribing to my author website or something else. Just leave in your comment what you've done, i.e. tweeting about the contest, or adding my books on your Goodreads bookshelves or something.  (Can you tell how organized I am about these things?)

The contest runs through June 15 and is open INTERNATIONALLY (although I will use the cheap slow mail).  Winners will be chosen by random draw.

OTHER NEWS: On Monday, I'll have author and reviewer Pixie Lynn Whitfield here for a fun Q&A and to talk about her debut novel, Darkness Comes This Way. Isn't Pixie Lynn's name brilliant? I'll also be having a contest for her book, so be sure to check in.

GRATUITOUS VIDEOS OF THE DAY

The sun is shining and I smelled the first scent of summer today, so the theme is warm, sun, bright, light, brilliant, whatever I find along those ideas. Have a great weekend!

And because it's Friday...

I agree with you -

For movies: Kenzi of Lost Girl. She gets the best one liners.

For books: Jenks of Kim Harrison's Hollows series.

Visit your web site daily - Thank you.

Hi, Roger, good luck in the contest! There are some funny videos on YouTube of Kenzi's one-liners. I posted the shorter one a while back, but the longer one is worth watching, too.

Zita said...

I subscribed to your website :-). I've been following your blog for quite a while, although I mostly lurk, because I like to lurk.

I also like Jenks, but Queen Betsy does snark very well also.

I would like to win the 2nd (or 3rd) place prize as I already have your other books and only have an electronic copy of Midnight Brunch, so that would bring my collection nicely up to date. Unless you want me to live with an incomplete print Acosta collection, in which case I'll just be incredibly sad. I don't know why, but it is hard to find a copy of Midnight Brunch in Halifax. I suspect the lobster fishermen bought them all up. They are all very keen Milagro fans, you know.

Marta said...

Hi, Zita, I know you hang around here! If you don't win Midnight Brunch tell me, I am staring at a case of them now. Yes, I am the official author laureate for Halifax lobsterman. Their annual Halifax Hellacious Literature and Lobster Conventions are AWESOME.

Cyprinella said...

Do I get extra points if I'm rereading the series right now? ;) Also retweeted your contest tweet.

Kenzi is pretty amazing, I have to admit. I also really enjoy Damon Salvatore's ruthless, wise-cracking practicality. And, of course, Milagro.

Marta said...

Hi,Cyp, yes you get extra points for re-reading the series! You oughta hear the narrated version -- Patricia's a pro and she's wonderful as Milagro and the other characters. She does a ridiculous and wonderful Nancy. I hope to have the narrated books out by the end of the month.

vilifying angel said...

i only have the bride of casa dracula so i really need the rest!!, and i have retweeted the contest

Bethie said...

Oh!!! What a great giveaway. I am so crossing my fingers one this one! I NEED some snarky paranormal romantic comedies because the summer is coming and there is nothing better to read on the beach and by the pool. OMG! I love Lost Girl. I DVRed the season and I am watching it now. The only problem is that I have to keep turning it off when the kiddies walk in. That series can be hot!

I totally am lacking snark in the book department right now. It's all war, seriousness, and death.

Right now I think my favorite pile of snark is Tony Stark, I have Avengers, on the brain.

Kristen said...

Hi Marta!
I tweeted your contest- although sadly I only have a handful of followers. And I've been following your blog for a long time... but I don't need to win your contest- I already have all your books (and put Dark Companion on my Amazon Wishlist) but I would LOVE to get them all signed. I only have Nancy's Theory signed from when I won that in the contest when it was first released :D
You're going to be on tour soon, right? When are you coming out to Chicago?
I just started re-reading your Casa Dracula series for like the 5th or 18th time and it just doesn't get old! You should have the books made into Manga- that would so fun to see the characters in action, even if it were in cartoony-form.

-Hi, Vilifying, yes, you need the whole series, especially Haunted Honeymoon, which wraps everything up and is the best of them. Thanks for the RT and one extra point there!

-Bethie, the CD series is good by the pool and Nancy's Theory was often called the perfect beach read. I love Lost Girl! What a great cast from Trick to Kenzi to Dyson and all the extras. Yes, it can be very hot!

-Geek2Craft, Tony is totally snarky and I'm saving The Avengers movie for a special treat. I'm dying to see it.

-Kirsten, thanks for the tweet! So glad you're enjoying the series again. Now that I'm doing the audiobooks, I'm sneaking in some extra lines for my favorite characters. Manga, hmm, hadn't thought about that but I'm more verbal than visual. Now all I need is an artist!

Lorelei said...

Marta, you are nearly as organized as me!
I SOOOO need snarky paranormal books written by YOU! I'm in need of something to get me through my day (job).

I've followed your blog for a few years and I've been a guest on it too! (^; I will go and follow your website, and tweet too.

I'm a big Buffy fan. I don't think you can go wrong with that show.

Roger is right, I think Jenks from Kim Harrison's books is a great character.

Ha! I see that my character deserving of the favorite snarky award has been mentioned, but hey he is so awesome he deserves another. I say Jenks from the Rachel Morgan series hands down LOL Thank you for sharing this fun with us today and for the awesome opportunity to feed my addiction with winning a new book. Yep like all our favorite vamps cannot survive with a little blood, I cannot survive without a good book :)

-Hi, Lorelei, I don't know how anyone could stay organized with as many blogs as you have! Hope all is going well with Vampire Ascendency! You mention Buffy and one of my fave snarky vamps is Spike. I love his snark. You get extra points for talking up the contest!

-Denise, can you believe that I haven't read Rachel Morgan's books? But I'm absolutely adding them to my TBR list if they carry on the snarking. Thanks for the recommendation!

Hi Marta,
I feel a little guilty even entering since I have all your books (well not Dark Companion, yet.)But if I win I can give my old ones away - everybody wins!
I think Sam gets pretty snarky on Supernatural so he's my favorite on TV.
I tweeted about the contest too.

I have ALL the books but that doesn't mean I don't want signed copies!! Enter me please! I'm such a huge fan and I'm sorry people but Edna in the Casa D. series is very snarky. In all the best ways. I just finished Dark Companion and have reviewed it on Big-A and will have it up on the blog by mid June...does that count for extra entries. ;-) Wishing you all the best, Marta, with the July release of Dark Companion.

Hi, everyone!

-Denise, thanks and, yes, those things get extra points in the contest. Seriously, I'll have to take off my shoes to count them all up!

-Lisa, no harm in having more and spreading the love! Evil Sammy was snarkier than good Sammy, and I kinda miss him.

-Sandy, I always try to balance out the serious with the funny. Sometimes I need more funny tho.

-Molly, yep, I watch Lost Girl for Kenzi, but Kris Holden-Reid is a fine actor as is the fellow who plays Trick. Could Bo be more wooden?

-Hi, Dot, thanks for the reviews -- yes, you get extra points! Oh, I miss Edna, too. In the audio books, to be released soon, she and Mil have some fun snarkfests and I've also made a few scenes a little smexier and I know you go for heat with your romance!

Marta said...

Hey, Jess! Thanks for taking time out of your Taken By The Others blog tour to drop by! I'd love signed copies of your books, too -- hurry up and write several more for a fair swap!

-Hi, Marilyn, thanks for dropping by! I didn't know that series had snark. I'll add it to my TBR.

Cheers from Sonja

I am totally amazed, Marta! ;)))
Kenzi all the way actually. I can't think of a better character on TV.
In books I would say Kate Daniels (Ilona Andrews series) is always snarky, and of course Charlie Davidson from Darynda Jones series is snarktastic! :)))
I've shared the contest here

Morning all!

-Esonja, making the narrated books has been a learning process and what reads fine in print may sound odd in narration. We're editing out a lot of "he said" "I said" etc. Hopefully the books will be available in the summer. Tina is terrifically snarky!

-Marybelle, that sound you hear is me sobbing. But maybe you'll win one of the prizes in my contest esp. since you've got extra points!

-Kara, you like Kenzi because she speaks Russian, and isn't it awesome when she does? Kate & Charley are very snarky!

I always love to read supernatural books with humor. They're so much fun! One of my favorite authors is Molly Harper, who's written the Jane Jameson series (NICE GIRLS DON'T HAVE FANGS and 3 others) and Naked Werewolf (HOW TO FLIRT WITH A NAKED WEREWOLF and THE ART OF SEDUCING A NAKED WEREWOLF) series. (The titles, alone, are hilarious!) Both have snarky, tough female leads. I highly recommend her books for anyone who loves funny, paranormal romances.

So, I tweeted, and I also follow this blog and your author website now for awhile. I also added your books onto my Goodreads 'to read' shelf. I really can't wait to read them, especially DARK COMPANION.
(I also love Kenzi on Lost Girl. She's hilarious!!)

Hi Marta! Longtime fan and would love to win! I haven't read Nancy's story or DC YET, but they're in my TBR pile! I have to agree that Edna is one of my top fave snarkies, along with Maggie and Jane Jameson from Molly Harper's novels, (the naked werewolf series and the nice girl's series). Been a Subscriber to your newsletter, and now I'm a subscriber to your blog! Love your stuff, hope you keep writing forever!

Hey, all!

-Lori, I've heard great things about Molly's books and had her here as a guest a while back. She's lots of fun. Extra points to you.

-Hi, Kat, I think Nancy's Theory is hilarious, but it never got distributed and has a heinous cover. Edna's one of my fave snarkers! Extra points to you.

-Danielle, good for you and I hope you'll win a book to read while you soak your tootsies. Extra points. I just followed you back at Goodreads!

-Wendy, the first time I watched Buffy was when the husband was on a trip and a local station was having a marathon. Buffy helped me from missing him so much. I love Sheldon! Extra points to you.

Favourite snarky character is Andrea from Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series.

I would love the opportunity to re-read the Casa Dracula books - first time I read library copies.

This really is an amazing contest! I’ve read all your novels and they are among my favorites. Milagro rocks! I can’t wait to read Dark Companion which I’ve pre-ordered. It would be awesome to have signed copies of your novels (my copies are Kindle versions). I follow you on your blog and Facebook page and subscribe to your author website, and have linked Casa Dracula Series on my own FB page with hopes that my amigas discover these fun gems!

Edna is one of my favorite snarky book characters because she’s snarky in an elegant and clever way. It’s no wonder she and Milagro get along so well. I also love Ian from Night Huntress Novels. He doesn’t hold back and as a bonus, he’s a BAD boy (right up my alley!).

Kenzi all the way for coolest queen of snark for television right now. As for books, I would have to go with Giguhl from Jay Wells Sabina Kane series.

I follow your facebook page, subscribed to your author website, have your books on my goodreads page, and have been recommending them in the B&N forums for years. Would LOVE to be able to complete my collection of your books. I currently missing Midnight Brunch. :(

Thanks -

Hi, everyone!

-Rachel, one of the reasons I love writing humor is to balance out life's difficulties. Extra points!

-Jessica, lots of love for the Ilona books from fans! So glad you enjoy my CD books -- I'm happy that libraries carried them.

-Hey, Jackie! Edna's character is one who comes to me naturally. I love her. You know I'm predisposed to like characters named Ian. Extra points!

-3monstermom -- great screen name! Good luck in the contest and if you don't win, tell me because I do have some extra copies of Midnight Brunch I could share. Extra points! Thanks for spreading the love.

Kenzie is my fav tv snark queen. Book wize is tougher. Loving Oberon in the Iron Druid series and Pam from the early Sookie Stack house books.

Who doesn't NEED snarky paranormal romantic comedies? The reason I need to win is that I am an addict. That is right I am TOTALLY addicted to books, and like any addict.. I prefer the goodstuff! Plus, major benefit is that you are autographing. So a double is acceptable, because it gives me my old copies to lend out to a potential addict and the GOOD copy for ME!
I have too many fav characters to limit myself.
For extra points:
I just subscribed to your author website.
Plus to this blog.
I "like" you on facebook.
As well as on Goodreads...
and just added a review for one of your books, the first I read... a couple of years ago.

Milagro is my favorite character ever! I lucked on to Happy Hour at Casa Dracula on one of my darkest days, and I have read it several times since then, as well as Midnight Brunch, The Bride of Casa Dracula and Haunted Honeymoon. These books are my friends, and they really do make me happy! Thank you.

Lois, thanks so much for your kind words! The characters became real for me and when I wrote the final sentence for Haunted Honeymooon, I started crying because I already missed them. It's such a treat revisiting my books and tweaking the stories for the audiobooks.

My Favorite snarky TV characters would have to be Kenzie from Lost Girl and Damon from Vampire Diaries (you love to hate him) Also the Character Paige from Charmed (yes I'm going way back)..

Books characters I would have to say Joanne Walker series by the author C.E. Murphy and my Favorite Milagros from the Casa Dracula series ;)

Marta said...

-Hi, Katerrahm! Oh, Capt. Mal is wonderful. I hate that that show wasn't renewed because I also wanted to find out more about River and her powers.

-Hey, Style, thanks for dropping by! I think you have a few signed CD books -- but more is always better. Thanks for the suggestions about C.E.'s and Joanna's snarky books!

Hi, Marta!

I need some snarky paranormal romantic comedies because it's an election year and everyone is taking everything sooooooo seriously. ;-) (And also because I love snark. Love, love, love it. Even had a personalized license plate: SNARK. Seriously.)

I've never seen Lost Girl, but I love Pam from True Blood for good old-fashioned snark. ("Blah, blah, vampire emergency, blah.") She always makes me laugh.

I'm a newsletter subscriber, and you've been in my Goodreads library for awhile now, but I've tweeted the contest and mentioned it on FB. Please enter me into your giveaway.

Thanks!

Heeeyyy!

-Danielle, I agree about the 24 hr. ridiculous news over every stupid gaffe. I spend my entire day making gaffes. Extra points for you and you've got to watch Lost Girl if you like snark.

-Laura, thanks for the snark heads-up! I hadn't heard of Lanore and will check her out.

-Becky, I always hate when I'm asked for a "favorite book." That's like asking who my favorite dog is. Okay, it's Betty von Snoggle, but don't tell Bosco because he has jealousy issues. Extra point for the follow.

Chelle, I'll try to post one of Damon's snarky videos soon. He is a crack up and I love funny men.
